A Night to Remember: Performing Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem
On October 18th, I had the immense honor of performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra — an evening that I will never forget. Conducted by Dr. Craig Jessop, Dr. Mariusz Smolij, and Dr. Andrew Larson, the concert was a stunning celebration of peace, unity, and the shared power of music.
From the very first rehearsal, I could feel the emotional depth of this work resonating through every voice and instrument. Dona Nobis Pacem is not just a piece of music — it’s a plea for understanding and compassion in a world that often feels divided. Performing it alongside such passionate musicians made that message come alive in the most moving way.
I was honored to share the stage with an incredible lineup of soloists: Eric Hood (Baritone), Rebecca Schull (Mezzo-Soprano), Derek Geddes (Boy Soprano), and Cory Evans (Tenor). Their artistry and sincerity elevated the entire performance, and it was a joy to collaborate with them.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Elaine Olson and Brenda Poulsen for their care and coordination throughout the process — from thoughtful rehearsal planning to making sure we soloists were always supported (and well-supplied with tea and snacks!). Your kindness made the experience both seamless and special.
As I walked off stage that night, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude — for the music, for my fellow artists, and for the chance to be part of something larger than myself. Dona Nobis Pacem will always hold a special place in my heart as a reminder of how music can bring peace, reflection, and hope to both performers and audiences alike.
Truly, a night to remember.
