Of his War Requiem, Benjamin Britten wrote, "I hope it'll make people think a bit."
Linnea performed Benjamin Britten's War Requiem as part of the American Festival Chorus, with soloists and orchestra from the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater. The work is full of haunting melodies, harmonies, and rhythms that exemplify war. The work is for a chorus, boys' choir, organ, two orchestras, and soprano, tenor and baritone soloists. The War Requiem was commissioned to mark the consecration of the Coventry Cathedral, (seen below) after it was destroyed in a World War II bombing raid. The first performance of the War Requiem was in the Coventry Cathedral on May 30, 1962.
The Requiem lasts approximately 80-85 minutes.
